Happy Holidays!

1 min read
Merry almost Christmas, everyone! Just dropping in to wish everyone a good holiday. For many people, this time of the year is extremely stressful, and some people are forced to spend long periods of time with toxic family members or other guests during the Christmas season. This is a friendly reminder that you are wonderful and valid, and you deserve the choice to avoid these people and have a good time. If you have toxic family get-togethers on Christmas, I hope that you are in a safe and secure enough position to forego those events this year and just spend the time doing something you love, either by yourself or with somebody else. If not, I hope that you make it through the holidays with at least a little bit of cheer. Remember to practice self-care.

I'm still kicking around, doing some drawing but nothing I can post yet. Just the usual business and the typical excuses. But despite that I still wanted to touch base and wish everyone love and happiness.

Take care! And have a great New Year.

Hey everyone,

Do me a huge favor and go check out my friend orribu. She's struggling to keep her head above water financially due to some expensive medical bills from managing a tumor in her jaw. She's got multiple bills coming in and is facing the possibility of having to replace her computer, which is the source of her livelihood as an artist.

If you can afford it, please consider commissioning her. She's a long-time friend and supporter of mine who is amazingly talented and hard-working. Back when my progress in art was stagnating, she gave me a digital tablet as a gift, which helped me improve my skill as an artist immensely. I don't exaggerate when I say if it wasn't for her kindness, my art would have suffered, and I would not be here with the skills I have today. She's got a ton of different types of commissions, including animated images. I've commissioned from her multiple times and she is friendly, professional, and the product is always beautiful. And as someone who has a lot of experience commissioning numerous artists on various internet platforms, she always has a good and affordable price.

Here's her current commission info and some samples of her work. Please check her out.

Here's one she did for me:

Commission: Umai and Usagi for Jessenosabaku by orribu

Here are other commissions and prize pieces she's done:

Commission: Ame (Chowder) by orribuCommission: Hanna for Clover1 by orribu|Commission| Nifty Winter Sweater by orribuWeekly trivia Prize: Clover1 by orribu

|Commission| Wiggly Boye for green-toothpaste by orribuTwistedFates Guest Stars- Andrea by orribuCommission: Lilian For Snippysnap by orribu

Commission details for Orribu:

Hum...Might Need Some Help.Few things I want to put out there.
I still don't have a job, I can't get disability due to a lot of red tape I need to work through, and now Grandpa (my computer) is steadily approaching his final days after some 8 years of service. This, even with the few MAGNIFICENT people who support me, is my only livelihood until I can work...something out. I have both mental and physical disabilities, so things are complicated, to say the least.
I need your help, guys. I can't stream or animate or make comics or commissions with the high probability that Grandpa is going to cut off for good. I pay to run stuff online, I've been selling what little I have to pay my bills and pay off my medical visits (you know, to keep track of the aggressive tumor that took half my jaw), and holy shit how long before I have to sell my car??? I live in SoCal, that's not...a fun thing to think about.
So, I'm going to push my commissions. Again.
I have done animated splash screens and icons for twitch s

OC Tag

10 min read
Tagged by UltraLiThematic! Thanks so much, and sorry it took so long. I really didn't have any recent drawings of a lot of my OCs there for a while.

- PERSONA: Your character that represents you.

Probably the closest thing I have to a persona right now is Kaoru. She's one of my oldest, and for a while her personal development always really closely reflected stuff that was going on in my personal life. She's become a bit more of her own thing now, but she still embodies me, or at least the me that I ideally want to be. She's loud, queer, confident, has a strange sense of humor and is a punk on the inside. She doesn't know where she's going in life, but she's going there in style. The journey is scary, and she's got a lot of unresolved past issues with family and friends, but it's worth it, and she wouldn't trade the people she loves now for anything.

- GUARDIAN ANGEL: You protect yourself through them, vent through them etc, they keep you strong.

That would be my boy, Tuck Foster! He's a relatively new addition to the team but I love him to death. I created him for a DnD campaign a while back and he unexpectedly became a huge deal in my life. Throughout the course of the game I used him to channel a lot of emotions into a creative outlet, both negative and positive. And eventually, thanks to him, I was able to get across some romantic feelings I had for another friend in the campaign, and we started going out. So yeah, I owe this boy a lot. Now I'm trying to write an actual story with him.

He's a sweet, lanky southern boy with crooked teeth who grew up on a farm in a world where magic is normal. He loves his family, especially his Granny, who is the head of the farm and a mystical seer of sorts. When an ex-friend/ex-lover turns out to be a monster and attacks Tuck and his family, killing both of his parents, Tuck sets off on his own to get revenge. He wields a rusty chainsaw that used to belong to his Granny, and he carried it around in an upstanding bass case on his back. His hobbies include playing the harmonica and knitting. He cares about being a good person and protecting the people he loves, but is gladly willing to get blood on his hands if necessary.
Also is cripplingly gay.

- SUNSHINE: A character that never fails to make you smile. Maybe they have bright colours or maybe they're very cute. A character who is your own personal sun.

My boy Duncan Chen: a Beijing Opera enthusiast, theater kid, and all-around good dude with a heart of gold and a dancing fever. I wish I had more pictures of him!! By the way, the white tassel things you see around his neck is a reference to a practice in Beijing Opera. Actors who would play the role of wise older men would wear long, white fake beards, which they hung from a wire around their face.
Duncan was another character that I used a lot to vent and explore stuff in my personal life. He's a really sweet boy with dreams of becoming a professional singer/dancer. He adores his girlfriend and his boyfriend more than anything in the world.

- SENTIMENTAL VALUE: Okay, now who has the most sentimental value? Maybe a character you received from a friend, or who you have fond memories of. Perhaps they're very old?

Junko Watanabe (left). One of my first OCs that I ever tried to write a story for. His best friend turned him into a vampire and then left him behind to go live in another city. Desperate to repair the friendship, Junko goes looking for his friend, meeting several other companions along the way. After Junko finds his friend, he has to figure out how to live a normal life again. His friend is named Tsubaki, who is the guy on the right. His silly and earthy nature helps mellow out Junko's bouts of anger and stoicism. They've both suffered a lot of similar traumas, such as abusive and neglectful parents. They understand each other better than anyone else, and they always have each other's back.

- THE FANCY ONE: Your flashiest character! Probably the prettiest one or the one with the most fancy design.

Jaymie! They were my first nonbinary character. A rap artist and lover of fashion who has the confidence to unapologetically be who they are. They're always super fun to create outfits for, especially because they love weaves and wigs.

- THE RARE ONE: How about a character you're so surprised you actually managed to get? You probably won't be letting go of them anytime soon!

Nodoka is definitely the dark horse of my OC repertoire. To this day he is still supremely unlike any other character I've ever made. He's probably the only OC I've made that seems to literally have a mind of his own. He's an asshole, a jokester, and probably the most selfish person you'll ever meet. He acts ignorant, but he is extremely emotionally intelligent, and has real big feelings. He generally tends to keep people at arm's length but he puts his heart on the line a lot for his close friends. He's also prone to falling in love, much to the dismay of whomever is the recipient of these feelings.

He is one of Kaoru's childhood friends. They go rollerskating together a lot, and share the same taste in humor. He was also friends with Duncan in high school, and their friendship carried on beyond that. They met through school theater. Duncan taught him some Chinese, and in return, Nodoka taught him Japanese.

- THE FANDOM CHARACTER: You heard me! Everyone's got one, fork them over!

I don't really have any fandom characters right now--especially not ones that I would have any art of--but I do have one character that originally was a fandom OC. My character Ulrich (some of you may know him as Umai; I've recently renamed him) used to be a total Gaara ripoff once upon a time. Had a demon sealed inside of him and everything. A ton of revisions later and he's achieved a much greater deal of originality. He's super short, super angry, and super tough. He is Kaoru's best friend from childhood, and they're always getting into fights together. He's also friends with Nodoka, who constantly annoys and harasses him.

He has an older sister and a younger brother. He loves them more than anything else in the world. Included is a height comparison of him to his sister so you can see how short he is.

- THE NEWBIES: Okay who just joined your family of characters? Let's see them!

Gladus (left), the leader of a druid organization that Tuck gets involved in, and Feliks (right), a vocalist who is struggling to cope with the sudden death of his partner.

And that's it. I don't really know anyone well enough on DA after all this time to tag anyone, but if you want to, you should definitely do this with your OCs! And if you do, please send me a link so I can see.

Tagged by UltraLiThematic. Thank yoooou! In the Shadows by Rasmus is indeed a good song.

RULES:
1. You have to post ALL the RULES
2. Answer 12 questions that you have been asked and then create twelve of your own to tag other users to reply
3. Choose 12 victims to tag
4. Legitimately tag these 12 people
5. You can NOT say you don't do tags (just watch me)
6. Tag backs are TOTALLY ALLOWED
7. You must do in a journal entry
8. You don't have to do this if you don't want to.

Questions for Me:

1. Favorite toy as a kid?
I don't quite remember. Either it was this giant stuffed mouse I always carried around, or this Nutcracker edition Ken doll I played with so much until his jumpsuit warped and wouldn't go on over his ass anymore.

2. First memory of the internet?
Playing Neopets games while listening to the song "Mirror" by Barlow Girl off of a Naruto AMV. I may have been a '90s kid.

3. Did you use floppy disks?
No, but I saw my parents use them sometimes. By the time I started using the internet, CDs were already a thing. I still have a lot of educational PC game disks down in the basement somewhere.

4. Do you feel old or too young?
A little bit of both. I grew up being mentally older than my peers, and developed a bit of a superiority complex about it. Now that I'm finally over the two-decade hill, I'm realizing just how long life really is, and how much I have left to learn. I'm glad I came to the realization, but already very tired in the face of the journey ahead. I hope the coming years will revitalize me and teach me how to be a better, more sensible, more humble person.

5. Have you ever tried doing animations?
Very briefly. There was a software program in the early 2000s called ToonBoom that was given to me as a package deal with the Wacom Bamboo, the first drawing tablet I ever owned. I animated one project for an art class at school, but most of it was backgrounds my teacher had drawn to help me and only a tiny bit of animation done by myself. It was really bad, and I hadn't configured the tablet right, so pen pressure and all that was nonexistent. I couldn't use the tablet, and consequently couldn't use the animation program, so I dropped it and never picked it up again. Now, though, I might like to go back and try to learn how to use the Ghibli animation program, or just straight up do a small flip-book or something. Maybe someday if I ever have the time.

6. Favorite gif?

Of course it's a One Piece gif. Still pretty accurate to my feelings about everyday life. Fun fact, I was in the Supernatural fandom for a while, so I was actually able to appreciate the source gif too. I stopped watching shortly after that episode though, because who the fuck has time for Supernatural?

7. What's best, sunrise or sunset?
Sunset. Sunrise is way too bright, and comes at a time when I would rather be dead or catatonic or anything rather than awake.

8. Do you sleep with your windows and doors closed?
Yup. We don't live in the best neighborhood. But honestly, I just prefer privacy and quiet.

9. Socks? No socks?
Sandals AND socks, my friend. But usually no socks

10. Share your awesome music. I like learning about new songs.
Ghosts by The Presets
#88 by Lo-Fang
Black Eyes by Radical Face
Devil's Work by Miike Snow
Amenamy by Purity Ring
Zoan Zound by Infected Mushroom. You'd probably like their stuff the best

11. Do share your senpais too! Your favorite artists.
It'll be hard to cover them all, but I'll try. I'm taking 'senpai' in its loosest terms to mean 'people I totally admire and want to draw like someday'
:iconclownsick::iconultralithematic::iconorribu::iconidaida-art::iconnanomortis::icondeer-head::iconbiteghost::iconmoosefroos::iconaianeart::iconyuumei::iconluska-chan::iconwanderbk::iconsalanchu::iconlen-yan::iconalviaalcedo::iconkanda3egle:

I really don't like tagging people for these sorts of things because I don't want to bother the artists, but I don't think I've ever done a proper rundown of all the artists I like on here so .... once should be okay, right?

12. Are you afraid of the dark?
Terrified. Darkness always feels physical to me, like a wall or a chasm. I also have terrible eyesight so when the lights are off it just looks like millions of flies are buzzing around all the time.

Questions for You:

1. To you, what does education symbolize? Is it a spiritually necessary part of life, or just a means to making a living?
2. What are some of your favorite novels? Comics and movies are fine too.
3. Out of the projects you've worked on as an artist, which one meant the most to you and why?
4. What is your dream?
5. Have you ever been travelling? What was your favorite trip?
6. Is there a language you want to learn/have been learning?
7. To you, what is the best thing about your home country? What's the worst thing?
8. Which moral virtue is most important to you?
9. Do you have a favorite figure of speech/saying?
10. What's a passion you have other than art?
11. Has DA been good to you?
12. What's an artistic medium you want to get better at?

Tagging:
1. UltraLiThematic
2. orribu
3. clownsick
4. Deer-Head
5. wanderbk
6. idaida-art
7. aianeart
8. Luska-chan

That's all the tags I got in me, I think. Feel free to answer the questions, but don't be pressured.

(If you're tagged, you can go ahead and skip down to the bottom to see the rules and which character I've tagged you for. Just want to know facts about your guys.)
Tagged by orribu to divulge more facts about my baby Nodoka. Sorry it took so long to get to this--almost exactly a month! I haven't been able to do a finished drawing of him in a long time, but here's a shitty non-completed sketch.

Waifu by JessenoSabaku

.:Happy star:.  Rules  .:Happy star:.
* Post these rules.
* Post 8 facts about your character.
* Tag 8 other characters.
* Post their names along with their creators' avatars.

1. He was originally created specifically to be a smartass. At the time, though my previous characters were all flawed, they were ultimately agreeable, and I felt I needed a character who pushed the boundaries of acceptable social conduct. He morphed from a side character to a main very quickly, and turned out to be one of my most complex and caring characters.
2. He developed his standoffish social habits as a child. Being a smartass gave him recourse to bullying, and over time he grew to be able to let any and every negative comment roll off his back. Nothing seems to get to him. Unfortunately that means he doesn't realize when complaints are genuine, and often only learns from consequences.
3. He is demisexual and demiromantic. Usually more physically attracted to girls, but forms deeper emotional connections with men. He is very careful to observe the boundary between friendship and relationship.
4. Super into music, and ended up in the theater club at school. Hates Shakespeare though. He's a tenor and can play a little bit of guitar and piano.
5. He does not know the meaning of political correctness. He and one of his best friends, Duncan Chen, trade racisms all the time about each other's respective heritages. All the badgering is completely in jest--Nodoka studies Chinese with Duncan every week so that they can visit China together someday.
6. His foster father always wanted to be a philosopher, so Nodoka's childhood was filled with half-baked philosophical discussion. That's part of why he's so good at manipulating conversations. He can't stand Socrates--interesting philosopher, shitty person.
7. In middle school, after claiming to have met an alien, he developed an intense interest in sci-fi and fantasy. He was also interested in astronomy for a time, but was never good at studying it, so he ended up leaning more towards its fictional literary counterparts.
8. He has a terrible sense of fashion. Often he dresses to cater to his nickname, "Usagi," which he gained for always wearing rabbit-themed clothing. He often adds stuffed ears onto hoodies and embroiders his gloves to look like rabbit paws. Alternatively, he is also called "Thumper."

Thanks so much for asking more about Nodoka! I love my little baby. I poured the worst parts of me into him and got an unexpectedly amazing return.
I don't think I have eight people to tag, but I do have a few people. Don't feel pressured to reciprocate!
